It&#8217;s an easy 100km drive from Sydney. There is no off-road driving required, and you can drive right up to the campground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 20 camping sites surrounded by small shrubs and lush trees, Putty Beach camping area is only a stone&#8217;s throw away from Putty Beach and Killcare Beach. There are 20 campsites available, but they are always in high demand, and book out months in advance, even in winter!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The layout of the campgrounds is ideal for families and big groups. There are a few sites that are very close to each other, but more secluded ones are also available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-20e44d58 gb-headline-text\">Things to note about Putty Beach camping<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>There are no hot showers at Putty Beach Campground. Cold outdoor showers are available so you can rinse off after your ocean swim.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There&#8217;s one ablution block. Here, you\u2019ll find running water and flushing toilets, which are cleaned daily.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No power at any of the campsites.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No open fires permitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dogs are not allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Putty Beach Campground is for tent camping only. It\u2019s not suitable for camper vans and camper trailers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep an eye out for the Bin chickens. They are pests and run around the camping area, eyeing out all your food and leftovers. Most of the time, you pretty much have to take what you can get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But who knows, you might get lucky and there may be a few sites to choose from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After spending a weekend wandering around the campgrounds, here are my thoughts on the best Putty Beach camping sites, and some things to look out for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-26392ecd gb-headline-text\">Putty Beach Campground Map<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"508\" height=\"719\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground-Map.png\" alt=\"Putty Beach Campground Map\" class=\"wp-image-4471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground-Map.png 508w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground-Map-212x300.png 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The layout of the campsites. Image credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au\/camping-and-accommodation\/campgrounds\/putty-beach-campground\">NSW National Parks<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-e0a00249 gb-headline-text\">Sites 8, 9, 10 and 11<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The toilets and beach entry are located closest to campsites 8, 9, 10 and 11, so if you\u2019ve booked one of these sites, expect quite a bit of foot traffic as people make their way to the beach and the bathrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These four sites are very close to each other so it\u2019s better for groups or families travelling together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also a communal BBQ area here, so you\u2019ll have BBQ facilities and picnic tables right by your sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These sites are great if you\u2019re travelling with kids as there is quite a big grass area in front of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Bouddi-National-Park-Camping.jpg\" alt=\"Bouddi National Park Camping\" class=\"wp-image-4472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Bouddi-National-Park-Camping.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Bouddi-National-Park-Camping-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Bouddi-National-Park-Camping-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Bouddi-National-Park-Camping-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sites 8, 9, 10 and 11 are great for groups with kids<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-9ba034ba gb-headline-text\">Sites 16, 18, 19 and 20<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Campsites 16, 18, 19 and 20 are further from the toilets on the opposite side of Putty Beach Campground. This means you won\u2019t have many people walking between your campsites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re camping in a big group, this area would be my top choice as there are BBQ facilities and picnic tables in the centre of the sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a short path next to site 18 which leads directly to the beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of these four sites, 19 was the biggest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camping-in-NSW-National-Park.jpg\" alt=\"Camping in NSW National Park\" class=\"wp-image-4473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camping-in-NSW-National-Park.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camping-in-NSW-National-Park-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camping-in-NSW-National-Park-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camping-in-NSW-National-Park-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sites 19 and 20 are to the right of the BBQ area<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-01853793 gb-headline-text\">Putty Beach campsite 13 and 14<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I booked campsites 13 and 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Site 14 was more private as it was almost fully surrounded by tall trees, but this also meant there was little sunlight on the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Site 13 had the perfect balance of shade and sun, but it looked on to site 6, so privacy was limited. (But I still preferred these sites 8, 9, 10 and 11.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground.jpg\" alt=\"Putty Beach Campground\" class=\"wp-image-4469\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Putty-Beach-Campground-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Site 13 at Putty Beach<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-c60fa50a gb-headline-text\">Sites 2, 6 and 7<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sites 2, 6, and 7 are right next to the parking area. If you want to park next to your site, these are a good option. But personally, I prefer to be away from the road and amongst the trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camp-site-7.jpg\" alt=\"Camp site 7\" class=\"wp-image-4474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camp-site-7.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camp-site-7-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camp-site-7-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Camp-site-7-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Site 6 is next to the parking area<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sites 17 and 12<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sites 17 and 12 are nestled amongst the trees and offer a lot more privacy than the other sites. (site 17 is probably the biggest campsite in Putty Beach Campground.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not much sunlight enters the two sites as they\u2019re completely surrounded by trees. So, if you\u2019re visiting during winter, like I did, you may want to go for a site that isn\u2019t as shaded. But the opposite could be said for summer where you\u2019ll be wishing you had picked the shaded sites!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Central-coast-campgrounds.jpg\" alt=\"Central coast campgrounds\" class=\"wp-image-4475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Central-coast-campgrounds.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Central-coast-campgrounds-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Central-coast-campgrounds-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Central-coast-campgrounds-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Site 17 is probably one of the biggest sites at Putty Beach<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-049447fa gb-headline-text\">Sites 1, 3, 4 and 5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Site 1, 3, 4 and 5 are also close to one another, but of these, I liked site 3 the most as it looks onto bushes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Best-campsite-Putty-Beach-Campground.jpg\" alt=\"Best campsite Putty Beach Campground\" class=\"wp-image-4476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Best-campsite-Putty-Beach-Campground.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Best-campsite-Putty-Beach-Campground-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Best-campsite-Putty-Beach-Campground-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/australiaobsessed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Best-campsite-Putty-Beach-Campground-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Site 1 is next to the BBQ area<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-eee568da gb-headline-text\">What to do near Putty Beach Campground<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the summer season, Putty Beach is a local favourite thanks to the long stretch of sandy beach that offers calm waters and great swimming conditions for kids. Bring your snorkelling and fishing gear along if you have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-a9b04f04 gb-headline-text\">Bouddi Coastal Walk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the far end of Putty Beach, you\u2019ll find the starting point of the Bouddi Coastal Walk. This is a great walk for the whole family and continues for 8.5 km to Macmasters Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a shorter option, do the first section from Putty Beach to Gerrin Lookout. This 1 km stretch is suitable for kids and offers some spectacular scenery and viewpoints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the little ones have more energy and you want to go further, continue for another 1.6 km until you reach Maitland Bay. This is a cost you\u2019ll incur over and above your camping fees. This pass can be purchased for $8 from the parking machine at the entrance of the campground<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check-in after 12:00, Check-out before 12:00.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au\/camping-and-accommodation\/campgrounds\/putty-beach-campground\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Parks website<\/a><\/strong> to make your booking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you been camping at Putty Beach Campground?
