Did you know that there are over 10 wineries in the Scenic Rim? Because I did not!
It wasn’t until I spent a few weekends exploring the Gold Coast Hinterland that I stumbled across some amazing wineries and cellar doors.
These wineries are perfect for a day trip from the Gold Coast or Brisbane and even better if you have a few days in the region.
Here are 10+ of the best Scenic Rim wineries for wine tastings, cheese platters, winery lunches and more!
About the Scenic Rim wineries
While the Scenic Rim has an impressive selection of wineries, it’s not the main wine region of Queensland.
If that’s what you’re looking for, then head straight to Stanthorpe, which is down the road (but before you go, check out my post on the best wineries in Stanthorpe).
There’s a close relationship between the Scenic Rim wineries and Stanthorpe. Their grapes are either grown in Stanthorpe with the wine-making process taking place in Scenic Rim or vice versa.
Why? According to one of the winemakers we met, the soil in Scenic Rim is too fertile. The grapes prefer the harsher climate and higher altitude of Stanthorpe.
But don’t let that deter you from visiting the incredible wineries in the Gold Coast hinterland and Scenic Rim. Their wines are delicious, and the overall experience is fantastic.
1. Masons Wines: Best winery and lunch
- Location: Mount Tamborine
- Good to know: On-site restaurant
Mason Winery is a small winery in Mount Tamborine in the Scenic Rim. From the moment I walked through the cellar door, I was seriously impressed.
We were met with smiling faces and felt incredibly welcomed by the staff.
Their tastings at Mason Winery are done outdoors, overlooking lush landscapes. It’s a relaxed vibe – exactly what I was looking for!
For $10, you can sample five of their wines (and there are a lot to choose from). My favourite was the 2021 Verdelho.
Alongside the tasting area at Mason Winery is their renowned restaurant, which serves modern Australian Cuisine.
2. Witches Falls Winery
- Location: Mount Tamborine
- Good to know: Dog-friendly
Witches Falls Winery is one of the most popular wineries in Scenic Rim. The vibe is totally different from Mason Winery, which is down the road. Both are worthy of a visit.
Visiting Witches Falls Winery is perfect for those looking for a tasting paired with a delicious grazing board amongst the vines.
The tastings cost $20 and include any 6 of their wines. If you’re feeling peckish, you can order individual items from their local produce menu, including olives, salami, cheeses and dips.
You’ll need to make a reservation here as it gets booked out fast.
3. Bunjurgen Estate Vineyard
- Location: Boonah
- Good to know: Dog-friendly
Bunjurgen Wines is a quaint vineyard in Boonah. The property is surrounded by farms growing crops with local produce.
If you enjoy intimate wine-tasting experiences with a relaxed atmosphere, you’ll love it here!
The grapes are grown on the property, but the wine-making process is done in Stanthorpe.
The outdoor tasting area is under gorgeous trees, and the owner, David, is as enthusiastic and welcoming as you’ll get. He gives an interactive wine-tasting experience where you’ll learn about everything from their wines to the history of the area and other fascinating stories.
It’s about a 90-minute drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, so I recommend spending a few days in Boonah, which is what I did.
4. O’Reillys Canungra Valley Vineyards
- Location: Canungra
- Good to know: Family-friendly
O’Reillys Canungra Valley Vineyards is one of the best Gold Coast wineries and a great option for families visiting the Scenic Rim.
Not only do they have an impressive selection of wines, but you’ll get to meet the resident alpacas that roam around the property.
Visitors can take their pick of a picnic basket + wine, which can be enjoyed alongside the creek or on their beautiful lawns. Alternatively, their cafe menu offers a variety of delicious options, including pizzas.
The wine tasting includes 5 tastings of their wines and costs $20.
5. The Overflow Estate 1895
- Location: Boonah
- Good to know: On-site restaurant
The Overflow Estate 1895 is one of the most picturesque Scenic Rim wineries. It has a gorgeous outdoor setting with vineyards and lawns overlooking Wyaralong Dam.
For $20, you can sample 8 of their wines, which range from reds to roses and white varietals.
Unfortunately, the tasting experience isn’t as refined as the other wineries nearby. You’ll be given a wooden paddle with shot glasses filled with samples of their wine (yes, like a beer tasting or taking a tequila shot).
I couldn’t truly appreciate the wines served this way!
On a positive note, live music often plays in the background, and you can order grazing boards to enjoy on the lawns.
The Overflow Estate is also the best place to go if you’re looking for a luxurious winery lunch in the Scenic Rim. Their famed restaurant offers French Cuisine and is popular for anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions.
6. Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm
- Location: Boonah
- Good to know: Check if it’s open on the day of your visit, as it’s a popular wedding venue
Kooroomba Vineyard has quickly become Insta-famous thanks to the photos of bright purple lavender fields shared on social media.
But the beautiful setting isn’t the only highlight of this place. Their winery and cellar door are just as impressive. They even have a renowned restaurant, and their lunch menu is exquisite.

If you enjoy wine, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy these distilleries and breweries, too!
Cauldron Estate and Distillery
- Location: Mount Tamborine
- Good to know: Gin tastings
Cauldron Estate is a distillery in Mount Tamborine offering a variety of gin tastings and cocktails.
It’s nestled between some of the best Scenic Rim wineries and has many of their neighbouring wines on the menu.
The vibe here is awesome! It caters to large groups, and there is often live music and bands performing on weekends.
Scenic Rim Brewery
- Location: Boonah
- Good to know: Good food and beer
Scenic Rim Brewery is a popular brewery near Boonah in the Scenic Rim. It has a rustic ambience and is as inviting as the folks behind the taps.
There’s a small outdoor beer garden where you can enjoy a tasting padel of all their beers. But it’s not only the drinks that are worth mentioning. The food is delicious.
I recommend popping in for a visit after Bunjurgen Wines and Kooroomba Vineyard, which are nearby.
